Charting a Course to Success for Children with Communication DisabilitiesPresented by: Susan Shapiro
In this workshop, parents and advocates will learn how to determine if an evaluation report meets requirements, an IEP goal is well crafted, and alternatives to traditional speech-language pathology services have been considered. Participants will be asked to review an example evaluation report and an IEP goal in advance of the workshop.
About The Presenter:Susan Shapiro is an educational consultant, special education advocate, speech-language pathologist, and special education surrogate parent. Susan has over 30 years of experience working with students, families, educators, specialists, and administrators in an urban public school setting. Soon after retiring in 2015, she created Speaking of Ability, Inc., where she continues to advocate for students with special needs. Susan currently serves on the SPaN board of directors. She is a member of the Council of Parents Advocates and Attorneys (COPAA) and the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA). Susan maintains currency in the fields of special education and speech-language pathology through professional workshops and courses.
